I have tried salary.com and they don’t keep figures for this.
I would like to know for each job title; stylist, colorist, make-up artist, esthetician, massage therapist, and whatever else you might care to add, how much money they make, preferably in New York City, at the beginning of their careers up to the point when they have however many years of experience makes them a top stylist (and if you could be specific about the number that would be great).
Please represent gratuities accurately (even if maybe on taxes you fudge them slightly, not that I’m saying anyone does that). Thanks so much.
Thank you. Great answer. I already live in New York City. Rent is expensive, but as you can see, salaries are higher.
Let me ask you something: do those figures include gratuities or is that base salary?
The hourly rate snapshot for people with esthetician jobs in New York shows an hourly wage range between $17/hr. and $26/hr., http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Esthetician/Hourly_Rate/by_City. This will vary depending on your years of experience. The hourly rate for a make-up artist in NYC is $16.90 to $26.45, as shown here: http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Makeup_Artist/Hourly_Rate/by_City. Finally, the average salary for beauticians nationwide is $17,527 to $36,361, http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Beautician/Salary. All of these positions are in the same general salary range.
One thing to seriously consider when moving from one place to another, especially when moving to New York City, is the cost of living. It is very expensive to live there. Check out this cost of living calculator if you are moving from another location, http://www.payscale.com/cost-of-living-calculator.
I hope these tools help you and good luck!
